Frenchie owners have you put your dog on a BARF (bones and raw food) diet?

Have any french bulldog owners put their dog on the barf diet? If so how did you do it and what do you use to make it up. Did it help clear up the normally unbearable frenchie gas attacks? I'm very interested in doing this for my girl so any resources would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. If you're going to switch your dog over to a strictly raw of BARF diet, you should actually read the books on the topic, join a forum so that you have a network of people to exchange information, tips, recipes, etc., and follow the instructions accordingly... Food handled prudently and with proper hygiene will be absolutely fine for your dog. But like any "change", it takes about two to three months for the dog to "transition" so you should see it through all the way realizing that it'll be 3 months before you see the full benefits... Dogs can experience gas, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. initially when switched to a raw diet, but in most cases will improve on their own, but think of it like detox and getting rid of all the toxins and junk food from ones system if you were to switch to a vegan diet...

    Best wishes with your dog.

  2. Raw food diets (BARF or prey-model) are great when done properly; you have to feed the correct ratio of meat, organs, and bones for the dog to have proper nutrition. (I bet you dollars to donuts that the people the first answerer is talking about did *not* do it properly.) The time dogs have been domesticated has not altered their physiological makeup, they are still carnivores. Humans are the *only* animals that cook their food, when's the last time you saw a wolf standing over a grill with a "Kiss the Chef" apron on? Here's a good place to start researching raw diets: http://www.dogster.com/forums/Raw_Food_D...

If you do feed kibble, don't feed Iams [Crimes], Science Diet [Science Death], or Eukanuba [Puke-a-nuba]. Those are hardly any better than Pedigree and Beneful. check the 4, 5, and 6 star foods at http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_... for good foods. And read about dog food ingredients at http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ .

  3. do not feed the BARF diet...

We had a few dogs die and few more close to death because their owners chose to feed them raw food....all you're doing is pumping them full of salmonella and ecoli....think about it...would you eat raw chicken and bones and beef?  The "that's what they eat in the wild" arguement is a crock too....We don't have wild dogs as pets...these animals are domesticated and they have adapted to the foods that we feed them for centuries already.

If you're having gas issues try a good brand of food such as IAMS, Science Diet, Eukanuba...not that purina, pedigree c**p...most popular brands and they are horrible dietary wise.  Also feed dry food instead of wet and that will keep their teeth healthy
