Question:

Frequent late menstruation, sometimes up to 3 weeks late. Could this be a sign of illness?

I am asking the question for my girl-friend. She is 22 years old and not over weight.

  1. It could be a sign of illness, like poor nutrition, hyperthyroidism, or stress, or PCOS, or peri-menopause.  Really, there could be a lot of reasons for having late periods, but you really should go see your doctor as some reasons may tell you that you need to have a child now if you want one, or make some changes in your life if you want to remain healthy, or have some things happen to return you to normal.


  2. If your overweight alittle that can affect periods.  I had problems with ovarian cysts, and that caused late and missed periods.  I had to go on birth control for 3 years, and then when I came off of it, I didn't have the problems anymore.  Talk to your doctor the next time your there.  Have you had a recent pap?
