My baby boy is 5 months old and he is still spitting up constantly. He spits up sooo much. The doctors all say nothing is wrong with him and he will grow out of it. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to help lessen the spitting episodes. Anything that helped your baby?

  1. my baby is five months and does the same thing ..my baby is on solids so what i do is give a little formula about 3 ozs before i feed him the solids and that helps keep it down a little ..my doctor told me to sit him up for 45 min after he eats and that should help but it doesnt help me

  2. don't move him so much after feeding time, and while feeding him, don't hold the bottly so firmly.  hold it loosley so the baby doesn't feel like he's being force fed.  let him play with the bottle as he drinks and burp him properly.  my baby brother used to have the same problem and let him play with himself sometimes but just keep him in your sight so he won't cry.

  3. I am sure that you have tried all of the usual suggestions...limiting movement after feeding, keeping upright, burping frequently, etc.  None of those things helped my baby.  We've waited and waited for him to outgrow it (he's 10 months).  In fact, the other day I made the mistake of telling my husband that I thought we could pack up the burp cloths because it had been awhile since he had spit- up.  I must have angered the spit-up gods because he spit-up a few hours later!

  4. My son just turned 5 months yesterday, and he still spits up constantly!!

I have tried everything I can think of!  The things that I think help are

~ Smaller feedings ( though if you do this, he'll be eating like a newborn!)

    ~ Burping frequently during feeding

~ Keep him upright for 20 mins or so after feeding

~ Don't bounce him around much after feeding

BUT these things aren't really super helpful, unfortunately.  I can keep my son still and upright, and he'll still spit up hours after his last feeding....

It should go away on it's own at around 12-18 months.

If your baby is having a hard time keeping on weight or seems to be in pain, I'd see your doctor.  He may need medication for Acid Reflux.

If he's gaining weight fine, and not uncomfortable at all, the doctors will not do anything for you.  Just keep lots of burp cloths handy, and prepare to do a ton of laundry!  =)

  5. Keep him in a sitting up position 1/2 hour after feeding

Don't justle him around after feeding

    No tummy time after feeding

    No bath after feeding

    Feed smaller amount more often

Try not to worry, it really is not that big of a deal.  Emma spit up a couple of time every time she would eat and sometimes in between.  It lessened around six months when she began doing a lot of sitting up.  At nine months old it is non exsistent.

  6. it is tough i know.  thankfully my son started to outgrow it at 10 months and by a year old it was gone. it gets better with time.

at 5 months babies tend to be a little more active.  too much excitement, being upset, just about anything can cause spit up.

try to get your son in the habit of sitting up.  whether in a bouncy seat, a bumbo chair, highchair, anything that will keep him upright but support him.

i always put my son in the highchair even when he wasn't eating.  i would put his toys on the tray and he would play.  i also put him in the exersaucer.  he loved it so much!  i was so surprised. this really did help lessen spit up episodes, but allowed him to play at the same time.

good luck =) hope this helps
