Im starting to look for ideas to develop for my final year project at university. I'm an aerospace systems student (basically avionics) and i'll be willing to give anything aerospacey a shot, and if you have any ideas or thoughts of areas that are lacking development in the industry i would love to hear them. even if you had just finished an interesting project and think i might want to hear about it please do.

Thanks alot for any help

  1. Explore a method of eliminating cross transfer of freq. or emf within the actual avionics panel.  This would eliminate the need for special shielded racks or physical placement separation of certain components IE ADF and transponders.

  2. I wouldn't mind having a nav/com panel with the ability to dial in and store frequencies in the order I need them. A lot of people fly the exact same route and talk to the exact same people every night, and it'd be nice to just enter them all once, and scroll down the list as I make my way out, then scroll back up the list as I come back.

  3. UAVs would be a good place to look at.  Right now, "see and avoid" is a big issue with them operating in FAA airspace.  FedEx and UPS to name two carriers are VERY interested in accelerating UAVs to the point they can start hauling significant amounts of freight.

  4. There needs to be improvement in the technology that warns planes of air shear.

  5. How about a cheap full-motion flight simulator?

Programs like X-Plane have a lot of digital output functionality that can be used to control various actuators and electrical systems.  Rig some pneumatic actuators with solenoid controls to a chair and hang on!
