It's just for fun. If you changed the type of waters you mainly fish, what species would be your main preference? For example, I fish freshwater only, but if I fished saltwater I would definitely target redfish.

  1. you know the redfish looks like our croaker family of fish out here on the west coast and though I do fish fresh and salt fly, spin baitcaster and deep sea gear I own em all. My favorite fish is the spotted bay bass (it is not even recognized as it's own specie) they fight harder than any other kind of bass salt or fresh. they live in the back bays and estuaries you can't eat them because they all glow in the dark from street run off into the back bays but they are a fight you will never forget on two to four pound test the stretch the line run pilings they have a tail that is so thick from fighting the currents and tide changes every six hours they can pull a boat as they swim away. but if I wanted to switch to something else I would want to fish peacock bass in So America. Being a river (current fighter) i have seen a few epic fights on shows on T V that have certainly gotten me interested in them

  2. I fish northern CA rivers and the Sac Delta for salmon, steelhead, and striper mainly - but if I made the jump to saltwater (offshore) I'd be targeting TUNA

  3. Well, currently all I fish is freshwater since I'm about five hours from the coast (Gulf of Mexico) and don't have a boat. We mainly target largemouth bass and crappie, but we'll sometimes try for catfish when we have a night free.

Once we get a boat though, we do plan to make some trips out to saltwater, so when we do it'll primarily depend on where we go. If we fished in the Gulf of Mexico, we would probably target Mackerel and Tuna. If we headed north, we would probably shoot for Salmon, Trout, or Herring.

Of course, I'd love to get a shot at some Walleye as well, which are not native to our lakes, so if we headed north we couldn't pass up some freshwater fishing in that area either....lol.

  4. I want to catch a Tarpon and have it pull me off the jetty!

  5. I live in central California and we get the killer salmon run witch happens to be closed this year cause low numbers at the jatchery, we get alot of big steelies in the winter and they kick *** as you know if you've ever caught one in the 15 to 20 lb range, but I think the ultimate ocean fish to catch would be the big *** Tuna they get on some of those long range boats out of San Diego, I mean the Tuna that get up to 6 and 7 hundred lbs,and built for speed and strength, where they strap your *** to the freaking boat and in a harness so it dont pull you over, FISH ON for 3 and a half  hour fight now that truly would be a BLAST

  6. Ive got the gear to fish saltwater, plus some saltwater fly rods, but my time fishing saltwater is limited due to where i live, every time i fish saltwater i generally go for tarpon to the south, but i really enjoyed fishing for halibut in canada last year, so it would be either tarpon or halibut, chances are halibut.

  7. I'm mostly a salt water fisherman and i mostly target snook and reds...as i live in florida.....but if i were a freshwater angler, i would really like to try pike and wallye in the north, maybe salmon fishing also. because those types of fish are similar in size and strength to what i am used to...

  8. i would fish for rays in saltwater

  9. I fish mainly saltwater, but I fish for whatever's biting, from surf fishing to bottom fish to offshore, and in between. I even tried flyfishing for tuna once. If I got plunked down by a lake or stream somewhere, I'd fish for whatever was in that lake: panfish, catfish, bass, trout, pike, whatever. I'm not picky.

(I look at these guys who fish for just one species, like largemouth bass, and I think "that's awfully limiting.")

  10. I suppose if I changed from fresh to saltwater...I'd fish for something like roosterfish and other species that will take a topwater offering. LOVE the topwater thing! If I switched to a different freshwater species I'd go for trout in a nice mountain stream. Dry flies of course. Need I say why?  lol Payara and peacock bass also rate high on my "wanna catch" list as do brown trout in Patagonia.

  11. I fish both. But if i was Saltwater i would target smallmouth bass because they fight like demons. And if i was fresh i would go after dogfish (sandshark) because they fight great and they get big!

  12. if i fished saltwater i would love to get stripers!

  13. i fish fresh and i would fish saltwater in australia because of the striped marlin they are a true game fish to catch!!

    Happy fishin'
