In a free fall, acceleration due to gravity is approximately 9.8 m/s^2. Convert this rate into ft/s^2.

and then another one..

Factor 2x^2 - 16x - 66

last one..

-36x^-4y^5 divided by 12x^2y^-3.

  1. Problem 1

!) multiply 9.8 m/s² by 1 ft /0.3048 m to cancel out the m and replace with ft.

    2) answer is approximately 32.15 ft/s²

    Problem 2

    1) divide both sides by 2

    x² - 8x - 33

    2) two factors of 33 that subtract to equal 8 are 11 and 3

    (x-11)(x+3) = 0

    3) set both to 0

    x - 11= 0 and x + 3 = 0

    4) solve

    x = 11 and x = -3

    Problem 3

    1) divide -36 by 12

    2) when dividing variables with exponents subtract the smaller one from the bigger one. Which ever one is bigger is the side the the variable will end up in.

    With the two x's: 2 - (-4) = 6

    With the two y's: 5 - (-3) = 8

    3) final answer is (-3y^8)/x^6

  2. i have freshman geometry too, but i have no idea what that is

  3. 1) use the conversion factor for meters to feet.  1 m is about 3.28 feet....

    9.8 m/s^2   9.8*3.28=

    2) 2x^2 - 16x - 66  first, remove common factor, 2

    2(x-8x-33)  now factor the quadratic:

factors of 33 are 3 and 11, to get -8 you use -11 and +3

    so your final factorization is:

    2(x + 3)(x - 11)

    -36x^-4 times y^5? divided by 12x^2 times y^-3?

remember variables raised to negative powers can be "flipped" over to become positive (and vice-versa)... and when multiplying two numbers with exponents you add the exponents, ***Do Not flip the whole numbers - just the variables!***so this becomes

    -36x^-4   y^5

    12x^2    y^-3

    (-36)(x^-4)(x^-2)(y^5)(y^3) divided by 12

    -36/12 = -3

    x^(-4+-2) = x^-6

    y^(5+3) = y^8

so you have -3(x^-6)(y^8) which you can re-write with all positive exponents by :

    -3y^8 over x^6

  4. Since geometry follows 1st year algebra, this material is from your previous algebra class (or should be).

9.8 m/s², converts miles to ft, knowing there are 5280 ft in one mile:

    9.8(5280) ft/s² = 51744 ft/s²

    factor: 2x² - 16x - 66

first, take out a common factor of 2:

    2(x² - 8x - 33)

now you look for factors of 33 that have a difference of 8 and that'd be 11x3:

    2(x - 11)(x + 3)

    last one:

    -36x^-4 y^5 / 12 x²y^-3

divide the parts to make it easier:

    -36/12 = -3

    x^-4/x² = x^-6 or 1/x^6

    y^5/y^-3 = y^8

    put it together:  -3x^-6 y^8

    or -3y^8/x^6

    hope this helps! ;)

  5. 1) This shouldn't be geometry but the first one is a simple unit conversion-32.2 ft/sec^2.

    2) This should be in algebra- divide by 2 and you get 2(x^2-8x-33)= 2(x-11)(x+3)

    3) This should be algebra as well.... -3x^-6y^8.

You will need to understand how to solve this problems if you want to understand math, but not sure that any of these should be geometry.

  6. 1. 9.8m/s^2 * 39.37"/m * ft/12" = 32.15 ft/s^2

    2. (2x + 6) (x - 11)

    3. -3x^-6y^8
