What kind of things should I do or get, in preparation prior to making my college debut? I not living in rez but car pooling instead. I want to make sure that I'm prepared and not worrying about anything but my marks in College this fall. I have already visited my college but still not sure what I should get for college supplies and is there anything else I should do?

  1. Well, make sure all paperwork is in order, your acceptance confirmed, all deposits recieved, and all financial aid taken care of. Shouldn't have to worry about any silly college bureucracy then.

College supplies? I suppose back to school shopping would be the same thing this time around as it always has been because you won't be dorming. A few notebooks, binders, etc. And highlighters! They are very useful!

If you are into social networking sites, join Facebook and get in touch with other freshmans at your college so that it won't feel like such a strange place.

As for textbooks, buy them AFTER your have chosen your classes and been to them. You will be able to see if you really need that expensive hardcover book or just be able to share one with someone or borrow it from the library. I have done this many times and have found that I don't really need that $110 science book because the professor's lectures and my notes are very thorough.

Good luck! Don't forget to join some clubs and go to some events!

  2. You'll need the same supplies you used in high school. What helped me was that instead of getting one big binder, was getting a small binder or folder for each class, it helps keep you more organized. And a planner is also VERY useful. Since you're a commuter make sure you join some clubs, it's a lot harder making friends when you don't live on campus. Also, look for the student lounges in your school, you might have a lot of extra time in between classes and you'll need somewhere to stay and relax other than the library.

  3. Find out the books you need, and try to get those before classes start.  Also if you're not on campus make sure your computer is working fine and make sure it has all the latest office software.  Invest in some three ring binders (One for each class), and also have a few dollars on you in case you have a break between classes and need something to eat or drink.  One more thing: a good, sturdy backpack is the MUST HAVE for every college student.
