Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Steffen Freund claims that Togolese striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 is struggling with fitness and has rubbished reports that suggest the club might offload the player in January.
Freund said that the only reason Adebayor is unable to start for the club is because of his recent struggle with injuries. The assistant coach also said that the striker wants to be back in the side, but is currently sick.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Manchester City forward secured a permanent move to White Hart Lane this season after serving a season long loan with the club last year.
Adebayor quickly became a local favourite as he scored 17 goals last campaign, and went from being a villain to a hero. The player had previously been a thorn in Spurs’ side as he scored a handful of famous goals while he was an Arsenal player.
However, many of the Spurs faithful wanted the player signed up on a permanent basis after last season’s impressive run in.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas had made the player his priority, and secured his services after a summer of delays and complications with the financial aspects of his transfer.
Since his move however, Adebayor has not managed a start for the club. Many reports started doing the rounds regarding the player’s future at White Hart Lane, with most of them claiming that the player might depart in the January transfer window.
Freund has rubbished all rumours, and claims that the player is not far from first team action. However, he revealed yesterday that Adebayor may not be fit to play tonight’s Capital One Cup clash against Norwich City. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“Adebayor came in, he’s really sick. Let’s have a look tomorrow.”
The assistant manager highlighted the Togolese’s importance to Tottenham’s long term plans and added:
"He's a big player. Hopefully he will be back in time. He is one of the best strikers in the Premier League.”
"We are happy to have him back here. We need every Tottenham Hotspur player. If Andre wants to rotate or change the position up front, it's good to have every player fit."
