Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Steffen Freund has shrugged off speculation about summer signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 Lloris’ absence from the squad that faced Carlisle City in the Capital One Cup.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international was a surprise exclusion from the squad, with many shocked because of the already limited playing time he has been given at the club.
Signed on deadline day in a high profile transfer, Lloris arrived at White Hart Lane from French outfit Lyon, and was understood to be a major priority for manager Andre Villas-Boas. The Portuguese had publicly stated his appreciation for the player, and
said that he considered him to be the long term replacement for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953.
Friedel, at the age of 41, is supposedly considering retirement from top level football after this season. Loris, as a proven international goalkeeper, is understood to be the perfect replacement for the American veteran.
However, ever since he moved, the Frenchman was informed that he will have to be patient and wait for his chance. There were reports that suggested that the player was unhappy with his manager’s decision, especially considering his stature as captain of
the French national team.
Friedel’s impressive performances in goal led Villas-Boas to prefer him over his new signing. At the rate the American is performing, Lloris may have to wait longer than expected.
So far, Lloris has only made on start for the club which came in the Europa League fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 last week. The Frenchman was impressive and kept a clean sheet, and many expected him to start in the league cup match. However, this was not the case
when the team sheets were revealed before the game started.
Freund insists there is nothing more to Lloris’ absence from the squad, and was cryptic when he spoke about the situation. The assistant manager said:
"I think at the moment we are just going from game to game.”
"It is not the right moment to talk about individual players because we had a fantastic performance as a team today.”
"Let's see tomorrow who is available for (Saturday's league clash with) Manchester United."
Tottenham will travel to Old Trafford this weekend to face the former champions as Villas-Boas prepares for his first real test in the Premier League.
