Friday Night Round up: Flames singe Blackhawks – NHL News
Washington Capitals 3 – New Jersey Devils 1
The Washington Capitals ended their two game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Centre in New Jersey. The Devils who came into this fixture with a three game winning run were left to rue
their poor performance on the power play as they failed to take advantage of any of the five power plays in this encounter.
Rookie Adam Larsson gave the Devils the lead with his first goal of the season at 13:06 of the first period. Alex Ovechkin tied the game in the second period at 17:33 to start the Capitals comeback.
New Jersey Devils struggled to score during power plays and gave away the lead in the third period through Jason Chimera’s shorthanded goal at 2:27 as Mike Knuble was sent to the penalty box for tripping.
Marcus Johansson doubled the advantage ten minutes into the third period ending the Devils winning streak.
Calgary Flames 1 – Chicago Blackhawks 4
The Blackhawks made it two wins in a row as they beat the Calgary Flames four goals to one at the United Centre in Chicago.
Duncan Keith gave the Blackhawks the lead in the first period with Brent Seabrook doubling the advantage with a second period power play goal. Blackhawks goal tender Ray Emery put in a man of the match shift making crucial saves
during the first two periods to keep the Flames out. He made 24 saves during the game.
Flames Centre Olli Jokinen spoiled Emery’s shutout bid by scoring the Flames only goal of the encounter at 10:50 in the third period. Viktor Stalberg and Patrick Kane scored three minutes apart in the third period to give the Blackhawks
a well deserved win.
Edmonton Oilers 0 – Detroit Red Wings 3
Detroit Red Wings goal tender Jimmy Howard secured his third shutout of the season as his 24 saves kept the Oilers front trio at bay easing the Red Wings to a 3-0 victory at the Joe Lewis Arena in Detroit. The Red Wings have now
won three straight games with an 8-5-1 record.
Drew Miller opened the scoring for the Red Wings in the first period scoring his first goal of the season at 10:35. Niklas Kronwall scored two minutes into the second period to double the Red Wings advantage Valtteri Filppula scored
at 14:52 in the third period to make the game safe.
Emery’s Oilers counterpart Nikolai Khabibulin has been in fine form this season but got little help from his defensemen as he was beaten three times in what was otherwise a fine performance as he made 27 saves during the game.
Ottawa Senators 1 – Buffalo Sabres 5
November has not been kind to the Ottawa Senators as their season has been turned on its head. The Senators entered the month on the back of a six game winning streak but have now lost all their five games in November after getting
a 5-1 mauling yesterday at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres.
The Sabres won their fourth straight game this season to take their record to 10-5-0 and stand second in the Northeast Division. Jhonas Enroth’s fine performance in goal with 36 saves during the game and goals from Derek Roy, Matt
Ellis, Jordan Leopold, Luke Adam and Ville Leino gave the Sabres an impressive victory over the Senators who looked lacked conviction in their play.
Defenseman Sergei Gonchar scored the only goal for the Senators in the first period and his first of the season to stop Enroth’s shutout bid.
