Friday could result in Early Regular Season Games being Cancelled -NHL Update
Everyone knows that the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) is in serious threat of being locked out, but no one could have thought that it would be as early as this upcoming Friday, October 5, 2012.
Early reports have emerged that the opening regular season games just might be cancelled after another deadlock emerged between the NHL and NHL Players’ Association. Both sides met three days straight, discussing the minor issues and even agreeing on how
to tackle some of them, but after a day to go over what they achieved, the stakeholders could not even sit down together for more than two hours.
“Not prepared to speculate on next steps at this point,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told The Associated Press in an email. “Obviously, we’ve been saying for over a month now that we would welcome a new proposal from the Players’ Association. That
continues to be our position.”
Memories of the previous lockout just seven years back are still fresh and there is still much hope for the two sides to come around, but nothing can be said at the moment as many experts also had hopes for the preseason to continue.
The most surprising part for fans is probably how the league came to decide that they will not be allowing the regular season to go through unless a new collective bargaining agreement comes into play despite their being the allowance of the hockey year
to continue until a new deal is enforced.
Many of the players who decided to stick around and wait for a deal to come into the scene are most likely preparing to go abroad and take that step since the regular season is now in doubt more than it ever had been all year.
"I think everybody's preparing ... like we want to start on time. [Adams] says right now that things aren't good, but we all know that all is takes is a little bit of movement and, hopefully, we'll get something done," Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ben
Lovejoy said according to the Post-Gazette.com.
Updates should be expected in the upcoming days.
