Question:

Fridge Freezer Coolant Gas Lost - Cost For Repair?

I have a Hotpoint Fridge Freezer. The small bore tubing has been fractured and all the gas has been lost. Given that the appliance is approximately 16 years old, is a repair possible and if so, any ideas as to how much it is likely to cost in the UK?

  1. Doubt if it would be worth repairing , this fridge given its age . If you take the call out at £50 and the labour after , you could soon end up with a bill of over £150 , a lot of refrigerant repairs are carried out on industrial units ,so getting someone to fix it may be hard , would you not look out for a cheap new one ?

  2. No, mine went same way and had to buy a new Fridge Freezer. Call Hotpoint and tell them what has happened and they may do you a deal on a new one, as they did for me. I lost the lot, all the food, and wasn't best pleased and hadn't had mine all that long. Are you insured because you may be able to make a household insurance claim, for loss of goods, or for replacement fridge freezer

don't call out any old engineer because Hotpoint were very good and did me a good rate for a new one.

  3. It is time to buy a new one.  It will cost more to repair than it is worth and you will still have old Fridge that is not energy efficient.  A new Fridge will save you money on your utility bill.

    Good Luck

  4. Buy a new one - modern F/F are way more efficient and you will save in running costs year on year. I would not think it is very economic to repair, even if you could find anyone willing to do it, and then something else is likely to 'go'. Sixteen years is a long time in kitchen appliance terms.

  5. you might have a call out fee first, then about 20 quid for the new pipe & maybe 30 quid to re-gas the fridge...but to be honest, if yours is 16yrs old...why not invest in a new one - there are some good deals around...just a thought!!
