  1. Crisco shortening, just melt in pan, or butter.

  2. no you cannot cook with a vinegrette, the chicken will taste horribly sour.

what you can do, is check if you have the following:

    - margarine (the kind you bake with)

    - halvarine (the butter substitute you put on your bread)

    - and ofcourse real butter.

    or

    -bacon

if you have bacon, you can heat the pan without oil, bake the bacon to let the fat drip out. put the bacon aside and save it for another day (tomorrow's breakfast or dinner.) use the fat from the bacon to fry your chicken in. the dish will taste slightly different, but it will still be good. (careful with salt)

if you use halvarine, make sure use a bit more than you would use oil normally, heat it well until its clear and the water in it has evaporated

  3. You can really cook with any type of oil but there are ones that are better than others because they can withstand the heat w/out breaking down and smoking (which gives the food a burnt flavor) The best is peanut oil.  If your thinking about "salad" oil you may be thinking of olive oil?  If so, I think it will be ok (pretty pricey though $$)  If it's veg or canola oil those would be fine!  Good Luck, now you have made me want fried chicken for dinner Yum!

  4. you can use vegetable, canola, peanut, corn oil, or crisco.....do not use butter or margarine

  5. If it is a vegetable type oil, yes, you can use it...olive, veg, safflower, canola, etc.

You can alsooven fry it, follow all the same steps and put it on a bakng sheet and pop it in a hot oven until done.

  6. You can use corn oil or canola oil and probably olive oil but that might have a different taste to it

    Good luck

  7. Do you have butter or margarine? You can use those instead!
