The American goalkeeper has stated his belief in the strike duo and says that they are two of the best strikers in the Premier League.
Defoe and Adebayor have 15 goals between them this season. Defoe seems to have found a spark ever since manager Andre Villas-Boas took over in the summer. The player was rumoured to be seeking a move away from White Hart Lane during the summer in search of more playing time.
The Englishman had primarily been used as more of an impact substitute under former manager Harry Redknapp, who preferred playing Adebayor instead of Defoe. However, Villas-Boas had told Defoe that he is a major part of his plans for the club, and urged the striker to stay.
Villas-Boas has demonstrated immense faith in Defoe, and the striker has repaid it by scoring goals and being clinical. Adebayor and Defoe are both played in a 4-2-3-2 formation. Spurs had won 7 of their 8 games in which both forwards started together last season, and Villas-Boas seems to have taken note of this and has opted for a formation which deploys both players together.
Friedel believes that both strikers have proven to be the one of the deadliest strike pairings in the Premiership. Speaking to reporters, the American said:
“When we have played with two up front, Jermain has really thrived on it, as he can save his energy for when he is inside the box. That is when it really matters for us.”
“Last season the system we played was slightly different, with Rafael Van Der Vaart just behind a lone forward, while at the beginning of this year injuries meant we didn’t have the chance to play with two up front, especially at home.”
“Jermain always plays on the shoulder of the defender so if a team want to push high up the pitch, he will always keep them honest.”
Tottenham will travel to Goodison Park tomorrow to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019, with both strikers expected to start the game.
