Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has taken delight in the club’s 3-1 win over Greek side Panathinaikos in the Europa League, and is happy that the club is giving the competition priority this season.
Tottenham managed a nervy 3-1 victory over Panathinaikos in the last game of the group stages of the Europa League, and have progressed through to the next round of the competition. Spurs had to manage a win over Panathinaikos if they wanted to go through, and managed a win at White Hart Lane on Thursday night. Brad Friedel got his first start for the team in over a month and was delighted to see his team go through.

Friedel is happy that new manager Andre Villas-Boas is giving the tournament more priority as compared to his predecessor Harry Redknapp. The former Tottenham manager had labelled the tournament as ‘punishment’ and did not play a strong team.
Villas-Boas however aims to win the competition, and is determined to win it for the second time in his managerial career.

“Unlike last year, it’s clear that the manager want to win it. You can tell that by the team selection. Every time we put out a very strong team on the pitch and he has not mixed his words at all.”
“He wants to try to win the competition. So we are going to take it very seriously.”
