Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 for a place in the team's starting 11.
The American has so far been the preferred choice in goal for manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has opted for a rotation policy this season. The Portuguese manager has rotated between both goalkeepers, but has started Friedel more than Lloris.
Lloris joined the club from French outfit Lyon in a high-profile deadline day transfer deal. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international captain was expected to be first choice goalkeeper for Tottenham considering his status as a regular international and one of the top keepers
in Europe. However, Lloris has so far played second fiddle to Friedel, who has been immense and impressive for Tottenham.
The Frenchman has had to bide his time on the bench, and has only one Premier League start to his name, among a few starts in the Capital One Cup and the Europa League.
There had been speculation regarding the player’s future at the club, with rumours suggesting that he may put in a transfer request in January. The matter was further aggravated when Lloris’ national team coach Didier Deschamps backed his stance and slammed
Villas-Boas for wasting the player.
Friedel however remains diplomatic about the situation, and insists that he has no problem being rotated with Lloris, and is more than happy about the goalkeeping options at the club.
When asked if he was doing anything special or different that was keeping him ahead of Lloris in the selection process, Friedel replied:
“No, nothing different to the way in which the two great goalkeepers we already had on the books in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heurelho-Gomes-c16173 were doing so all last season.”
“We have four very good goalkeepers here at the club and we know that there is competition for places between all of us.”
Lloris’ only start in the Premier League came against Aston Villa, which ended Friedel’s astonishing record of 310 consecutive league starts. The keeper added:
“I think at that stage I was just more proud of the achievement more than anything – it’s not a small amount of games!”
