Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953 has turned down the reports that he is considering retiring from football, and insisted that he will carry on as long as his club requires him to.
The 40 year old American player came to Tottenham Hotspur in June 2011, after completing his three year contract at Aston Villa. He has played 307 consecutive matches in the Premier League, which is currently a league record. In total he has made 624 career
appearances, over a period of 18 years.
Even though he is the oldest goalkeeper in the English league at the moment, the American International has no plans of calling it a day in the near future.
“How long can I play? Until no manager in the world wants to take me on,” Friedel told The Times.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 shot stopper admitted that he did not expect to play for such a long period, and attributed the length of his career to his hard work.
“At 35 I probably would not have expected to be playing at 40. There’s no secret [except to] eat well, [have] discipline and work hard.”
Friedel, who is on a two year deal at White Hart Lane, has made 31 appearances for the Spurs in the league this season, and has made 98 saves in total. Besides, he has been able to hold on to a clean sheet on 11 occasions.
He admitted that he was approached by Liverpool in the past but opted to move to Tottenham, after assessing the performances and squads of both the clubs.
“I would have been signing my retirement at Liverpool, I came to Tottenham to battle for No 1. I looked at where they were going, the squad, talent, [and made] a 100 per cent football decision.”
When asked about the prospects of his side finishing in the top four in the current season, he responded by saying that his side needed to come out with three points from their visit to Tyneside, in order to maintain their pressure on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429.
