Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 will provide for the first choice goalkeeping spot.
The American shot stopper insists that he has no problem with the arrival of Lloris, and said that the rivalry between both players is a ‘healthy’ one. Friedel added that it only keeps him on his toes and is a good factor for the overall squad.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas made a move for the Frenchman on the last day of the summer transfer window. Lloris had been identified as a high priority target by the Portuguese manager, and was considered the long term replacement for the aging Friedel.
Friedel had himself said in an interview a while back that this would be his last season playing football at the highest professional level. At the age of 41, the American admitted that he may retire soon.
However, the player has not shown any signs of slowing down. An impressive series of performances by the veteran keeper have restricted Lloris to the bench, with Villas-Boas himself saying that Lloris will have to prove his worth if he wishes to start in
goal.
It is understood that the manager’s comments did not go down well with Lloris, who was expecting to be thrust right into the Spurs starting 11. At the age of 25, and being the French national team captain, Lloris is not used to sitting on the bench.
The player was understood to be unhappy with his situation at the club, but said that this was not the case, and he is prepared to fight for his spot.
Friedel has no worries about the situation, and has welcomed the signing of Lloris. He believes that a fight for the goalkeeping spot is good for the squad and reduces complacency.
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 has come in and is a really nice person," Friedel told the media.
"He's a super goalkeeper but we have two other really good goalkeepers in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlo-Cudicini-c8340.”
"We have friendly, and healthy, competition for places. Hopefully we will have long runs in all the cup competitions and there's going to be plenty of matches to share around."
