Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and current number 1 has said that he welcomes the signing of France international Hugo Lloris and insists the competition will be good for the club and players.
Reports in the media suggested that the France international goalkeeper was unhappy at learning that he will not be manager Andre Villas-Boas’s first choice in goal. The player joined Tottenham in a high profile deadline day move from Lyon, and is considered
a long term replacement for Brad Friedel, who is supposedly set to retire next season.
However, the player soon learned that he will not be immediately getting the number 1 jersey following an impressive showing by Friedel in the 1-1 home draw against Norwich City last weekend.
Villas-Boas had spoken to the media and hailed Friedel’s performance and reliability. The manager also said that there was no way that Lloris would replace Friedel without first proving his worth.
These comments stirred up the media, and France national team coach Didier Deschamps claimed that Lloris did not appreciate them. This created more drama in the media about a rift between manager and player. Lloris had kept quiet about the situation until
yesterday when he said that he wishes to talk to his club manager on his return from international duty.
