Question:

Friend's baby shower in 3 days... nothing bought off registry? Tell me this isn't the norm!?

My friend's baby shower is this saturday. I'm not throwing it, someone else is. She's not a super close friend, but we're friends none the less.

She told me that around 60 people were invited to her shower.

Well, as soon as I was invited I went on her Babies R Us registry (the invitation had her registry info, she was only registered at BRU) and bought her a diaper bag. That was over 2 weeks ago.

I just checked her registry. No one has bought anything off it, and her shower is this saturday. I feel awful.

Is that the norm? My shower is in October and my guest list is currently 40 people. I've worked so hard on my registry. I went a little crazy and already bought most of my layette, and while I expect that I'll get a LOT of baby clothes as shower gifts, I was really hoping that people would shop off my registry, and then, if they really felt inclined to buy clothes, buy those in addition.

My registry is 50 items, of all different prices.

I was expecting at least 25 items to be bought.

Now I'm freaking out.

Please, in your experience, what is a normal expectation for shower gifts?

  1. I tend to go buy shower presents just a few days before, so it might be a little worrisome, but if her shower is Saturday afternoon, people might go out Saturday morning and pick things out.

  2. Not really, most people either want to get something that they pick out, whether it's clothes or toys. To boot the registry items are generally either very boring or too expensive. I didn't get too much off my registry, only specific items that friends asked me about then bought together in groups/pairs. A good way to handle the clothing issue is to ask people (if they're going to buy clothing) to get clothing for when the baby is older. Most people include receipts with their gifts so you can always return them and get store credit for future items.

  3. i had mine july 19 and no one bought off mine either, i guess they just want to do it on there own. I did end up getting a lot of stuff though..

  4. *Baby clothes- Babies need clothes to keep them warm and comfy, and to protect their little bodies. You can get undershirts, onesies, jumpsuits, hats, socks, baby dresses, sleepers, pyjamas and a receiving blanket. Make sure you get hypoallergenic products so the child would be safe from skin irritations.

    * Baby grooming, bath and health products- These can help clean and take care of the baby’s body. Grooming, bath and health products can include baby shampoo, lotion, baby wash, baby wipes, baby soap, nail file, scissors, baby thermometer, safety pins and first aid kit. A baby basin can also be a good baby shower gift.

*Baby feeding time necessities- Items that can help feed babies are always great gift choices. Baby bottles, baby formula, bottle holders, nipples, breast pump, bibs, feeding spoon, baby dishes, tipper cup and burp towels are great choices you can get.

*Baby toys- These can come in different kinds. Some toys can help the child learn, while others are only made solely for entertainment. Examples of baby toys include teething toys, play mats, musical toys, mobile, teething toys and stuffed animals.

  5. I have a baby shower on Saturday and not much is bought off of my registry either.  I think a lot of people just opt to buy baby clothes...which is nice, but I love picking out baby clothes and I wouldn't have minded doing a lot of that on my own! I think a lot of people just choose to get what they want to get...but I bet you will still get a ton of useful stuff at your shower, even if it wasn't the stuff on your registry.

  6. don't freak out,and just be grateful for any gift that you recieve. people also register for wedding gifts and guess what? alot of people don't even check the registry and buy gifts from other stores.

  7. Many people these days give cash or gift cards, so don't worry, if you don't get what's on your registry you can buy it afterwards. Besides.. 50% of what you think you "need" you won't ever use anyway.lol (mom of five)

  8. people could have gotten her stuff from a difrrent store or forgot to tell the person at the till that the stuff they got was for a baby registry it all depends but i would worry about it

  9. A lot of people forget to have the cashier take it off the registry.

  10. for my shower there were only like less than 10 things bought off of it. but i did receive alot of gift cards and tons of cash so we made out really well... baby showers are soo much fun and the biggest hit at mine was the right left baby shower game.. everyone and i mean everyone loved it!! basicly you print out the story and then hand one person at each table a gift bag and then start reading the story slowly whenever they hear the word right in the story they pass the gift to the person on their right and the same goes for when they hear left.... then towards the end of the story the person reading it picks up the pace and the guests have to pass it faster and faster.. whoever ends up with the gift at the end of the story gets it.. its really fun!!!
