Friend asked me to play Online Poker Tournament for him?

Hi I have a questions. My friend played poker online and won a satellite seat to another tournament, If he wins that one he can play in the 3 rd Tournament with potential for a cash price. The thing is he will not be around that day for the online #2 Tournament and has asked me to play.

My questions is should I expect a part of the winnings if I get him into the final and 3rd tournament and he wins. Without me getting him through the 2cd tournament the 3rd and final tournament would not be possible.

I am just not sure what the proper ediquette is in this situation.

  1. I totally disagree with the guy who says win the satellite first... that is just irresponsible and could likely ruin a friendship.  Work this out before actual money is involved...

This seems like a standard staking/partnership deal to me.  My question is, did your friend have to put up any money for the first tourney?  Or was it a freeroll from the beginning?

If your friend did not have to put anything up out of pocket, then I agree with the guy who said you should be entitled to one third (1/3) of whatever's won.

However, if he had to pay something (and I don't care if it's 50 cents as long as it's something), then I think the most you should be entitled to is only half of 1/3 of whatever's won.

This is what I would be looking for if I were in your shoes.  However, you can work out any kind of deal you want and think is fair (and get your friend to agree to).  The most important thing is, MAKE THE DEAL BEFORE YOU PLAY.  Don't assume what you're entitled to.  Have a plan in place with your friend as to what happens if actual money is won.

    Goodluck.

  2. no guarantee either of you will make it thru...

Id want 30% for completing 1/3 of the trip...

  3. win the satellite first, then think about compensation.

if it's not worth it to you to spend that time on a tournament without a guaranteed return, you shouldn't do it in the first place.

  4. Most poker sites have rules against playing on someone elses' account.  That said, I don't think there is a chance that there will be any repercussions, as it seems unlikely that there will be any extensive monitoring (they won't figure it out, that is).  I wouldn't do it, anyway.  If he can't expect to play the scheduled tournament, he shouldn't have invested his time in the satellites.  Asking you to invest your time to do something unethical shouldn't be tolerated.

*whispers*He could have at least offered something in the first place.

  5. If the tournament has a significant prize pool I think compensation for advancing him would be appropriate. Maybe 10-25% of total winnings? If not, I wouldn't worry too much about the money. Instead focus on playing well and having fun.
