Friend burning horses' hoof...is this harmful?

i have a friend who, to be honest, has some "issues." well, a few weeks ago, he bought a new horse. i know nothing about them, but it seemed really sweet and gentle. anyway, long story short, he sits around the barn and drinks beer and will take a cigarette lighter and lift up the horses foot and burn the hoof. then he will let it die out and do it again. the hoof is all frayed looking now, and the horse is acting kinda weird i think. he laughed when i asked him about it and said it was "hoof therapy." i dont buy this at all.....is this legit or is he just messed up? is there anything i can do about this? this really freaks me out....help please

I have never heard of such a thing.,  My farrier does what is called "Hot shoeing" where he places a hot horseshoe on

my horse's hoof to get an exact fit...but he is an expert.  I have never heard of "hoof therapy" such as this.  Contact

an equine veterinarian or a farrier and ask if this is okay for

the horse.  It doesn't sound right to me if the horse is having and adverse reaction, plus there is no reason for doing it in the first place.

It's called ANIMAL ABUSE! You said he's picking up the foot and burning the hoof. Is he burning under the hoof? That's so not good. He's damaging the hoof and torturing the horse. The poor horse is stressed. Large animals and stress don't go well together. I wouldn't be surprised if it kicks him. Please call someone and save this animal from such an a$$hole

I don't know your age, so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.  I can see how someone with no knowledge of what a hoof is made of might think it was okay if the guy who owns the horse says it is.  The fact that you came on here to check it out is reasonable, since you didn't know.

Now that you do know, you have the opportunity to do something about it.  I hope you do.

call the local sheriff and have them investigate it.the sheriffs in colorado will come out and see for themselves any abuse but in your case where i think you are trying to troll unless you didnt post another question about shooting deer in your yard and your history of answers i would say you are trolling,so bye bye and enjoy the red dot.

you sure move around a lot.in one post you say you came from new york to colorado but you ask a real estate question about georgia and you say you run a home for the elderly on the weekends but you are still in high school.

Call the police or humane society ASAP! That is animal abuse, who knows what else he may be doing to this poor poor horse!

People like that really get me angry... that is just plain wrong and sick and that horse needs to be taken away from him! A horse is a living, breathing thing that does NOT deserved to be treated this way.
