I have no idea how to handle a salamander, what does it eat?

does it need land to get air?

So far it's been swimming in my aquarium, and doesn't look like it reached up to get air

what temperature should it be at?

And any other information i should know to care for it please and thank you

I live in New Jersey, if that helps at all

  1. I think you should put it back. The salamander is probably happiest in its home. if you want one you should go to the pet store.

But if you decide to keep it anyway:

you might want to look up on the internet what kind of salamander it is by typing up its color or some specific detail.

and you should put some thing in the aquarium for it to walk on. they dont just live in the water. they like to hide so put something in there for it to hide under.

    hope this helped ^^

  2. ok first thing many salamanders from the wild die in the first few months of captitivty keeping it is cruel and will all most definatly harm the salamander cause stress issues and shorten its life span. and these are salamanders kept in the correct way which is impossible to do without know the speices of salamander which u dont

its cruel immoral and in some places illegal

so you've been curel and evil and decided to make the poor thing suffer

since u have given us nothing to go on there are loads of species of salamander this could be. size color and patterens all these will help work out what it is.

set-up depends largely on species but salamanders can drown i would give it an area to get out of the water (floating island, driftwood a bit of secery that comes out of the water

Temps i cant be specific due to the above problem but the cooler the better most salamanders like it bettween 16-21C

Food Wise: live bugs (earthworms slugs flies crickets aquatic livefoods such a bloodworms or tubifex) fed every other day

Never handle your salamander unless absolutely necessary chemicals and salts on your skin can harm your salamander (on the very rare occasion u may have to handle your salamander wash your hands before keep them wet and never hold a toad for more than a few seconds)

Never mix species of reptile or amphibian NEVER EVER

let it go before u kill it
