Question:

Friend having troubles connecting PC to TV?

So me and my friend are trying to connect his PC to his TV via Dvi-Hdmi. His TV is 1080i, and the res is 1366x768 for pc connections. We've tried multiple resolutions, but can never get it to fit perfectly, and 1366x768 isn't on his list, even after he updated.

Ideas?

  1. There are several factors that affect my response to your questions, so I will work with several assumptions and base my response accordingly.

    1.  Your friend has an LCD TV

    2.  If #1 is true then your friend's TV cannot be natively 1080i.  LCD panel TVs are either 1366 x 768 (or close to it) to get 720p or 1920 x 1080 to get 1080p.

    3.  All signals can be either upconverted or downconverted to fit the TVs native resolution - this is done by the TV.  If #2 is true, then the TV should be displaying everything in 720p.  This assumes that the computer is outputting at 1366 x 768.  Likewise, if you had a 1080p LCD TV and a computer outputting at 1920 x 1080p, then the TV should be able to display this as well.

    4.  However, #3 is not true in cases where the TV has the ability to display 1:1 ratio - e.g., when the computer is the program source.

    5.  If this TV does have 1:1 option, then this should be enabled in the TV menu.  Be sure to check the computer output setting to be 1366 x 768 as mentioned in #3.

Lastly, after checking all of the above and once you have connected the computer to the TV via DVI-HDMI, be sure to cycle through and select the correct HDMI input on the TV.

    Hope this helps.
