Question:

Friend is really competitive?

One of my best friends is EXTREMELY competitive. We're in band, and where we live competition is huge.

So we had marching band try outs today. I thought I did pretty good but after i finished marching my friend ran over to me smiling and laughing and said "your flute wasn't parallel!!!" fyi: In marching band they are very strict on keeping your flute parallel when you're marching.

I thought this was rude of her to come up to me smiling saying that when she knew it would freak me out. I feel like if she was a good friend she would have said "good job! you did great!" or something supportive. What do you think about this? Thanks! :]

  1. I think it depends, I like my friend who tells it straight to me if I committed something so that I can change my mistakes.  If she want's to compete with you then go give out your best, just go out there and show her what you can do, it would be better if you will just stay silent and let her see how good you are.

  2. She was laughing and smiling because you messed up.  She was having a good time at your expense.  Sometimes our friends aren't really our friends and enjoy our bad fortune.

  3. I've got a "friend" like that- I don't consider him a real friend. Its obvious that your friend is insecure and more concerned about themselves that its not really worth the time to foster a relationship with him or her. Break it off.

  4. kick ***

  5. okay just ask ur friend y she/he is doin this and if she doesnt tell u dont stoop to her level either just tell she/he to stop worrying u!!!

    hope this helps!!!

  6. Then tell her, that it hurts.  The friendship should be more important to her than competition.  If she is a good friend, then she would stop.  If not, get a new friend.  You dont need her dragging you down.

  7. next time she says something like that, don't let it bother you. just say oh well. she is probably just jealous of you so she is trying to be better. She wants to be the best. and she knows you're better then her so she is just jealous. don't let her get to you. just be nice to her. don't say something rude like that to her. you should be the nice one. good luck :)

  8. This is probably what your mom would say, but maybe she's jealous.  She might be trying to freak you out because she thinks you're better at band than her.

I know it's tough, but you don't have to compete with her.  Just try to treat her the way you want to be treated (for example, tell her good job after tryouts).  If it gets really bad, just tell her straight out, "I don't want to compete with you."
