Friend just bought a wireless router but cannot connect to the net

Im assuming hes running windows vista since its a new computer, what are some simple steps to get him online?

First thing I would do is call his ISP.  Sometimes they recorded the MAC address of the PC/router that their modem is connected to.  They will also work with him to get the router setup properly if he needs to put in static IP info, or setup a PPPoE connection in the router.  If you know this info or he has done all this post back with more details.

If you are connected to the access point but do not have any Internet, try cloning the MAC address.

In Vista:

Click Start

Type the text below:

cmd

Press enter

Type the text below:

ipconfig /all

Your physical address for your wireless device is your MAC address.  You need to go into the router and clone this.
