My friend had her baby on Friday and she was having a normal birth when complications started and the placenta detached from the baby inside her, so they rushed her to theatre to remove the baby but said they only had 20 minutes or the baby and her could die. How common is this as this is the 1st time I have heard of it, and also why would she have died from this? I understand the baby could have died as it was no longer attached to oxygen inside her, but what makes it dangerous for her?

  1. that happened to my mum when she gave birth to me, it's 13 yrs later and we're both fine and full of life

    :D

  2. it because she could have bled to death if the placenta wasn't removed soon enough.

  3. this happend to me when i had my son (he's now 4) i was told at the time that it's not very common, and ive not known anyone else to have this happen.

  4. Hi thanks for sharing that with us, I am about to give birth in like 3 days that has made things worse I know you have to have these questions answered but still.

She probably heamorraged and basically she could of bled to death. that can happen , I dont know how popular it is but anything can happen in child birth. touch wood it doesnt happen all the time.

Now I am worring lol, I know I didnt have to read this but still the title I read and that was enough.

  5. Same thing happen to my mom when she had my brother. She's the only person I know of it happening with. What made it so dangerous for her was he was basically causing her to bleed to death, while he was suffocating inside her.

  6. i guess if the placenta stayed inside the woman, that could make her bleed loads and could really kill a life unless the placenta all came out.

when I had my first baby last year, i had natural birth and she came out normally and kinda quick.

However, down there of me couldn't stop bleeding, and in the beginning the doctors didn't know why until they sent me to theatre 2 hours after birth, then found out it was some part of the placenta remained inside that made the continuous bleeding.

I lost a quarter of whole blood in my body, and i was soooo unconscious in the first 24 hours!

I don't know how common this is, but i was told that my placenta problem was because I got induction to have my baby earlier than due day (i had pregnancy high blood pressure so they decided to induce me 11 days before my due day), hence my body was not naturally ready to do it all although I did have a "not too long" labour, the placenta just broke when my baby was coming out thus some part remain inside.

Anyway, if complications happen during labour, it could really be dangerous if no appropriate action is taken in time.

A good team of medical staffs/midwvives are really essential.

I am grateful that I had very good services during the time i stayed in the hospital, and Im glad the doctor found out the source of problem out and resolved it before things went wrong!

  7. hemorrhaging is what made it life threatening to her but as you say she was dealt with and survived. This is not an every day thing but when it does happen it can be dealt with successfully so dont worry
