Friend or Foe to take it easy for at least 2 months after sustaining a minor ankle injury
Trained by John C. Kimmel for owners Chester Broman and Mary Broman, the four-year-old colt Friend or Foe has had an ankle issue which would prompt the owners to sideline the colt for at least 60 days as preventative time off.
The 4-year-old chestnut colt has had a satisfying 2010, where he could manage two important wins after getting himself into heavy competition in the year’s top notch races.
Friend of Foe broke his maiden on 6 March, 2010 under jockey Rajiv Maragh at Gulfstream Park dirt over a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
It was the allowance test for Friend of Foe next up as he did not disappoint John Kimmel and ran down the 6 furlong distance in 1 minute and 8.99 seconds.
It was at Belmont Park dirt on 15 May, 2010 for 3-year-old and above males, now the colt was 2 of 2 and ready for a stakes race.
Consequently John Kimmel got Friend or Foe tested at seven furlongs in Mike Lee Stakes also at Belmont Park dirt on 20 June, 2010 under Rajiv Maragh.
Friend or Foe showed his critics and connections that he favours the 5 ½ furlong to 7 furlong distance, as he came off flawless in all of his first three sprints.
Unbeaten in three, John Kimmel decided Friend of Foe to test his mettle against the big boys in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes, run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on 31 July, 2010 at Saratoga. The race was filled with great runners but Friend or Foe made a
race out of it as he rolled in 4th.
Relaying enough confidence to his trainer, he got sent to run the Travers Stakes last year, but it was asking too much of the colt and he fell two positions further down to 6th.
Friend or Foe rose again in the Empire Classic Stakes and won it fine style over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
2011 kicked off for Friend or Foe in fine style, as he landed the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont Park on 5 June, 2011.
Right now he will be sidelined due to some filling in his ankle. It is one of those things that you can recover from while running, but Kimmel has gone for caution and he will give his colt 2 months to heal it up and be in top condition for his next ventures.
