Friend says his 97' Trans Am is god..

Question

Each time I'd be like can your car beat that can your car beat this? He'd be like no thats a cheap @$$ import. Is it true his stock 97' trans am is that fast? what average cars can beat his?

Trans Ams are very powerful.

99% of average cars probably don't stand a chance, unless they are really souped up. You want to look at sports cars and muscle cars if you are looking for something that might be able to beat it. (Mustang/Corvette/Jaguar/Ferrari) Maybe some high-end luxury cars would stand a chance. I think Mercedes has some pretty powerful cars that you wouldn't expect to be powerful.

The '97 Trans Am's were equipped with LT-1's, factory rated at 300 hp. On a cool day with a decent tailwind they might run in the high 13's. They can be beaten by:

LT-1 or LT-5 equipped Vettes

Any Vette '97 or newer

Any V8 F-body '98 or newer will at least be competetive

Higher end mustangs within the last couple model years should be on par

Imports I can't speak for, but it's probably fair to say no Civic or Accord has much chance.

His really is not that hot, a 1972 Olds 98 has a 455 engine, not only is it faster : it can crush his mini car against a building without major damage

They are fast cars in the 300hp range but they weigh more then a lot of the imprort cars. It pretty much sounds like your friend is ignorant to things other then what he himself owns

his car would run about 14 sec in the quarter which is good but not as fast as say a WRX STI that would do it in 13.8 or an Audi S4 that can turn 13.4

Saying that all the other cars are cheap imports is just stupid considering that many of those models cost more then his car and he is putting cars much better then his (like Porsche and BMW, ect) under the same umbrella. But yes it will be faster then a lot of the honda civics and whatnot you see driving around with the gigantic rear spoilers.
