  1. speaking from experience...(alcoholic)..when your off ALL drugs..including alcohol, you will get your appetite back and feel better.  Gaining weight in detox and rehab is a tail-tell sign your getting better.

Actually, when it comes to "detoxing", alcohol is the most dangerous drug to detox alone.

Again, weight gain is a good sign, esp when getting out of rehab.  They make d**n sure you eat healthy.

It doesnt matter if he went there for alcohol or crack...there the same.  they both will kill you. the important thing he did was to get help.

For exp; if he never picked up crack again, but started drinking in place of it,..hes not in recovery.  Addicts, without help, replace there addictions with another.  And if he continues to drink after rehab...that means hes getting worse.  the truth hurts..ive been through it, and i watched many , many people kill themselves.  Good luck to you and your friend.  If you have any questions, please ask me.

    For Drug and Alcohol Detoxification

The body’s reaction to the removal of a substance it has become dependent on is called withdrawal. Withdrawal causes craving for more of the substance being removed. The period of time when the body is trying to overcome its addiction is called detoxification (detox). Detox is the first step in overcoming a substance addiction such as drugs or alcohol. Detox is a pertinent step for the patient is to be successfully rehabilitated.

However, other illegal drugs such as marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, and cocaine do not require medical detox.

Alcohol detox, like drug detox, is usually accomplished in an inpatient medical facility.
