Question:

Friends and i found a duck egg infront of the pond at our apartments. what would be the best way to incubate?

we dont have the money for a real incubator. the mother was hit by a car. what "house hold" item could we use to incubate.

  1. By the time you got your first answer, and figured out what the heck to do, the egg was almost positively dead. Sorry. Might as well throw it out.


  2. Your chances of success are one in a bizillion!  That egg needs constant temperature, proper humidity, & to be turned at regular intervals.  Put the egg back outside.

  3. If you have a gas oven you can use that. The warmth from just the pilot light is great for warming and drying all kinds of things. Just make sure everyone in the house knows the egg is in there.

    You can also use a 100 watt light bulb and a cardboard box. Just be careful that the bulb doesn't touch the box. Use some old clean rags or wadded up newspaper or even wadded up paper towels to cushion the egg. A small lamp(no shade) or clip-on desk lamp with the 100 watt bulb should do fine. Then go on-line for more info or call fish and game. But get the egg warming as soon as possible! Good Luck!!

  4. boil water in a pot for 3 minutes. add the egg, cook for an additional 4 minutes. eat with toast.
