Question:

Friends drifting apart after high school?

I've been out of high school for 9 months now. My friends and I have had little get togethers throughout the summer(which were organised by one of my friends) and every few months or so after that. But it started to become harder and harder to make successful get togethers. The last one I organised could only get one person to come because everyone was either doing sport or camping or at their relatives place. I had to cancel it and I gave up on organising anymore get togethers. I'll invite them to my birthday later this year but thats gonna be the last time I'll invite them to anything.

Its sad that this is happening.

I'm in the process of finding a full time job(I recently finished a short course).

I'm under 18 so I can't go clubbing yet.

I've been to a few groups but they all have people who are much older than me in them, plus I didn't enjoy the activities in them.

Any ideas of how I can make new friends? I don't like being so lonely.

I know exactly what you are going through, yes, i am abit older than you but i was there once myself. This is the way i handled things then and may be it can help with your question.

I know that loosing your friends is hard and you have probably known them for a very long time, but times do change and so do people. You are trying to find a job which is great. That is one way to make new friends. But these new friends that are older i would think again, they are into things that you don't need to be in right now.

What i would do is not loose contact with the friends you have and if you can't get together then send them a birthday Card, Christmas Card, and maybe a Card that says you were just wondering how they are doing. Doing this you never loose them as a friend, and you are still getting to talk with them even if it just with a card or letter. This is what i do to this day and we are still really close even though some of them have moved out-of -state. You may want to try this way, and let me know if it works.
