Question:

Frigidaire Gallery Not Cooling after Ice Maker Leak.?

by  |  earlier

The other night our Gallery side by side ice maker started spewing water from inside the back of the fridge for a good 20 minutes before it was discovered. I cut off the water and the next day we noticed it was no longer cooling on either the freezer or fridge side. I haven't taken off the back yet but could someone give me an idea of what could have been affected to make it not cool anymore? Is there a switch or something that could have tripped? The lights still come on but no cold air.

Thanks.

  1. You likely have ice in your fan in the freezer or ice covering your coils from the leak. I suspect the former first. Can you feel that fan blowing out the vent in the freezer?

It "might" clear on its own after a few defrosts but that could take a couple days.

In the name of energy efficiency they have the fan housing with a close tolerance. And that design leaves a place for that water to collect.

I have seen this a number of times with an icemaker leak on the Frigidaire. You need to thaw it out well and it should cool again after it clears. "Usually" it doesn't damage the fan any.

But it will take most of a day to thaw out all the ice depending on your room temperature. Best to unplug it (so the lights are off) and leave the door open.

    Good Luck

If you need parts you can get them at this site also along with instructions on how to locate and replace the part.
