The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international announced his retirement after 18 years as a football player because of persistent injury problems of late.

European Championships.
Nevertheless, the midfielder, who is also Toronto’s skipper, left the team camp in Florida a couple of weeks back because of the injury. He has now confirmed that he will not be returning to the side. He claimed that during practice
he realised he will not recover soon enough.

“During pre-season we discovered that my recovery would take longer than expected. I always want to do what’s best for the team and that is why I have decided to step away,” he added.
“I really enjoyed my time in Toronto and playing for Toronto FC. I wish the club all the best this season and hopefully they can continue to embrace the winning spirit that I brought to the team,” he mused.
“Everyone is sorry that Torsten will be unable to lead our team this year but the injury he had often requires a lengthy period of rehab,” he finally concluded.
Frings is hoping that Toronto will continue their winning mentality next term. He played 46 games for the Canadian club and appeared 20 times in the last season. However, he sustained a groin problem during the Concacaf Champions
League and missed the competition as a result of that. His experience will be deeply missed by the team.
