my leopard frog tadpole is now a froglet and has 4 legs already. it has become much darker since yesterday and i think his tail has shrunk a little. i am feeding it frog and tadpole pelets. is it true that when a froglet is absorbing their tail they don't eat? when should i feed it fruit flies and pinhead crickets. the froglet is already 2 inches with the tail. i have a fish bowl with pebbles sloped so it can go on land. he spends most of his time out of the water now. should i move him out and into a ten gallon tank? if so, how do i make it half water and half land?

  1. this is easy. yes put him in a 10 gallon and just do the same with the rocks as you have done with the bowl. moss would be a good idea for him too. you can buy it in pet stores cheap. and he's old enough to start eating crickets.

  2. Sounds like it's time for your lil frog to move into his bigger tank.  To make it half land, half water, you could use a few different methods.

    1) You could get something like a round tupperware container that's only a few inches deep, and bury it in the gravel like an in ground pool.

(be sure your tad has something like a ramp or rock to help him get out)

    2) You can fill the aquarium with a few inches of water, and find big round rocks to occupy 50% of his space.

Tadpoles will still eat while their tail is being absorbed, pellets, bloodworms, fruit flies.  They're growing, and very hungry.

I've had a lot of different kinds of frogs as a kid.  They're a lot of fun to raise, and pretty easy to take care of. Have fun!

  3. He's already old enough to eat insects if he's spending a lot of time out of the water.  I haven't paid enough attention to see whether or not any of mine didn't eat while absorbing their tails-I always had more than one at different stages so the food was always eaten.  For the tank, you can often find walls/barriers at the petstore that you attach to the glass with silicon sealant to keep water out of the land areas.  I personally used a piece of plexiglass and the sealant.  Some people just use pebbles but you need a lot of them.
