Question:

Frogs and Toads in my swimming pool?

I just moved to a rural property. Almost every night/morning there seems to be frogs and toads in my pool. I don't mind the fact they are in there (besides them dying). The problem being I am a HUGE animal lover and hate waking up to any dead toads/frogs. Therefore, after it gets dark I am running out every half hour to "save" any and in the mornings doing the same.

So I just need a few questions answered to help me... (I will be putting some sort of netting up)

- How long can toads and frogs stay under water?

- Can chlorine severely hurt them?

- I have well water (no chlorine). Would they be better off being rinsed after I take them out or will it matter?

- How long can a frog go without being in water?

So far every frog/toad I have taken out has lived but I dont know how long they have been in there (they are in the skimmer basket). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I had the same problem two summers ago.  Like you, I am an animal lover.  Unfortunately, I was removing at least 2-3 DEAD frogs/toads per day from the skimmer.  With some internet searches, I found Frog Logs (www.froglog.us) and purchased two.  They are an amazing invention.  Since putting them in our pool (one on either side of the skimmer), we have had no more deaths.  I swear by those products.

  2. The new Critter Skimmer would do the trick Critterskimmer.com
