    It was a selfish policy. Had we been more involved in world affairs maybe 6 million Jews wouldn't have been exterminated.

Bear in mind that following the end of World War 1 (The War to End All Wars: 1914 -1918), the US was devastated by the cost of victory in a war that it avoided entering until 1917.  The US had paid a terrible price in enforcing its military alliances, Communism was not, as yet considered a imminent global threat, and not only did the US have no interest in aiding Germany's economic development, Adolf Hitler was not quite yet a force to be reckoned with.  The US had no interest in yet another war.
