From Beavers to Tigers: NCAA Gymnast Britney Ranzy joins Louisiana State University
All-PAC-10 performer, Britney Ranzy, is all set to transfer from Oregon State University (OSU) to Louisiana State University (LSU), and will officially make the move in January 2012.
The LSU Tigers have definitely cashed in on the Oregon Beavers’ loss, and the LSU Head Coach D-D Breaux is ecstatic.
“She comes in as a former elite gymnast at the club level and an All-Pac-10 performer. When she joins us in January she will give us instant depth,” Breaux said. “The fact that she is coming in as a sophomore with experience at the collegiate level is something
we are really looking forward to”.
On Ranzy’s gymnastic competence, Breaux commented that Ranzy is “very powerful”. The coach also evaluated Ranzy to have shown a high level of skill.
Breaux’s assessment of Ranzy is backed by the Californian athlete’s laudable career in gymnastics so far.
Before joining the Oregon Beavers, she competed in the capacity of a U.S. Senior International Elite. She finished third in the 2008 Olympic trials on the vault. In the following year, she was placed fifth on the same apparatus at the Cover Girl Classic.
She also took part in the 2009 Visa National Championships, securing the 14th position in the all-round.
This same year, still a freshman, Ranzy claimed the vault and floor titles as an Oregon Beaver. She made this achievement at the NCAA Corvallis Regional.
The vault seems to be her forte as she won the 2011 All-PAC-10 First Team honours on the vault.
Of the nine vaults that she performed during the season, six earned her titles. The highest vault score posted by Ranzy up until now is 9.925.
Last year, when faced with the NCAA vs. pro dilemma, Ranzy opted for OSU for the emotional value that came attached with it.
“OSU is not only a team, but a family. I saw that the first time I came here. The coaches saw me as a person more than just my talent,” Ranzy had said.
Once the Southeastern Conference Financial Aid Agreement is signed, Ranzy will be officially recognized as an LSU Tiger. January 2012 onwards, she will represent LSU as a sophomore.
The LSU class of 2012 also includes notables Rheagan Courville (Baton Rouge, Los Angeles), Lloimincia Hall (Dallas, Texas) and Randi Lau (Honolulu, Hawaii).
All three newcomers are freshmen and will be performing in the all-round.
Predictably, Ranzy’s first tournament as an LSU Tiger will be the Cancun Classic. The event is scheduled for the January 6, 2012 in Cancun, Mexico and will mark the opening of the 2012 season for the LSU gymnastics team.
With the home season to open a week later, on January 13, 2012, against Auburn, Ranzy will get to witness an active exciting start with her term at Louisiana State.
