  1. There are several "stops" in Schwerin and each may have a different service. I've picked an example: The Berlin transport consortium (BVG) web site lives the following times from Flughaven Shonefeld to Schwerin Hauptbahnhof:

Last evening departure from Shonefeld 19:32 Arrive Schwerin Hbhf 22:40

First departure the next morning from Shonefeld 02:39 Arrive at 06:40.

There may be alternatives but you'll have to search around the BVG web site. They do have a Journey Planner section. Look up the maps too. This may help you to find the best "stop" for your sister's requirements.

Berlin is a super city and quite safe to walk around, but it can be bloody cold in the hours around midnight. I know! Good luck.

  2. She should take a good book, as she'll spend several hours sitting around one or other of the Berlin major stations.

    Options are:

S-Bahn line S9 from platform 13 at Schoenefeld airport station, at 2358 (destination Berlin-Westkreuz).

... arrives Berlin Hbf platform 16 at 0040.

    or

S-Bahn line S9 from Schoenefeld airport station, at 0118 (destination Berlin Warschauer Strasse)

... arrives Berlin Ostkreuz at 0143

S-Bahn line S42 from Berlin Ostkreuz at 0356 (destination Ringbahn)

... arrives Berlin Jungfernheide at 0421 (platform 6)

either way, then catch train RE38226:

0420 from Berlin Hbf (platform 7)

0425 from Berlin Jungfernheide (platform 4)

arrives Schwerin Hbf (platform 2) at 0640.

One-way fare €33.80 via Hbf, €33.50 via Jungfernheide.

Personally, I'd much rather spend some spare hours in the middle of the night in Hauptbahnhof, rather than Ostkreuz!
