Question:

From California to Washington?

Ok, so this might seem odd to some of you, but I've completely had it with California weather and want to get out. I HATE not having 4 seasons, I hate when the rain never comes.

I'm considering a move based on weather, however unpredictable it is. Rain, gray cloudy skies and cold wind make me incredibly happy and open, while I feel moody and depressed on hot sunny days. However, here in the middle of California, it's way too hot for me, and never rains enough, in my opinion. For those that suggest a move within CA, I'd rather not. I'm done with CA for the time being, I need something new...but slightly familiar which is why I have decided on Washington or Idaho in mind.

So, what's the weather like in Seattle? Is all the rain exaggerated? Perhaps you have another suggestion within the West Coast limits?

[some place that doesn't go into triple digits during summer, or above 80 (is this asking too much? lol); I can handle snow, and LOTS of rain]

  1. Seattle is a perfect area that has four seasons, so is oregon on the coast, that's where I live :)

  2. No the rain is not exaggerated there. They receive about 971.55mm (38.25in.) of rain a year. So that would be about 2.66mm (.10in.) a day but it doesn't rain everyday. It's not too hot and not too cold. The average July and August  temperature is  24C/75F and the average December and January temperature is 8C/47F. Which, in my opinion could be a lot worse. That's the climate you seem to be looking for. You mentioned Idaho? Now if you think the weather is too hot in California, then you wouldn't like Idaho. In July it's usually 90degrees everyday. But it's cold in the winter there too. I recommend Seattle.

  3. Its good weather..... actually i dont much about it

  4. As a former Californian, I know how you feel. The weather in California can be very boring between April and October, when it's the same almost every day.

Is the rain in Seattle exaggerated? Yes and no. It does rain frequently, but usually the rain is not heavy and it doesn't last all day. Often it will rain for a while, then there will be a "sun break," then it will rain again, then stop...you get the idea.

One place you might want to check out is Bellingham, WA. It's usually a few degrees cooler than Seattle, gets slightly less rain and a bit more snow (and cold wind). Nice place.

  5. Move to New York or anywhere north of Florida.  The changes in autumn are beautiful as the leaves change.  Of course the snows are beautiful as well,  especially the first snows of the year.

  6. I know you say no California but sounds to me like the perfect place for you is Arcata, CA about 300 miles north of San Francisco.  It is California but nothing about it feels like California and the weather will once in a blue moon (if that much) reach anywhere near 80 and it rains LOTS, plus if its not raining its mostly cloudy.  Gorgeous redwood forests too.
