I want to go see a loved one who lives in Iquique, Chile, but airfare is about $1300. I was thinking to take a trip and go w/ my motorcycle. It would cost about $1000 anyways for gas, food and lodging, but It would be a dream come true to go trough all these countries and see all the scenery on my motorcycle.

My bike is a 200cc Suzuki skyteam dual purpose (it's a street legal dirtbike geared for the road) The bike is a 2005, only 3000miles.

Honestly, do you think my bike will make it all the way there and back?It would be about a 10000 mile trip total.

  1. Don't go on motorcycle. Your trip could last 2 months (back and forth) and it's cheaper by plane.

Did you know that you can travel Miami-Lima(Peru)-Miami for US $ 444?

If you buy at Lan Peru in advance.

Then Lima-Tacna-Lima for only US $ 190?. Then you cross the chilean border and take a 3hr ride to Iquique for only US $ 20 or so?

So you can invest around US $ 750 and make the trip in 14 hours tops, and spend 2 months with your loved one!

  2. It seems you are more interested in your trip than in what you call your loved one.

  3. First and foremost. When you come to the Darien gap between Panama and Colombia, youll have to take a boat. 2nd many South American countries do not allow importation of any kind of used car (Colombia being one, for example) 3rd it would be INCREDIBLEY dangerous. on the scale of 1-100  it would be say, 10,000,0000,000. So if you have anything cool, will it to me. Youre going to die. Also a 200 CC dual purpose bike will vibrate like an SOB. Once I tried something similar (Pasco WA to Spokane Area) on a 400 CC bike and it sucked. Ive made 1000 plus a day rides on my HD. Ive done trips of 4000 miles in a week. And you know what? It wasnt that great. Do you speak Spanish and look latin? If you DONT forget it. Also your bike holds what? 5 gallons? and gets say 45 miles to the gallon? so youve got a 225 mile range? Lots of places in Southern Mexico where you might run out of gas. Save your money. Fly.
