There are three ways to go from Heathrow to London (the faster ones, bus is slower):

-The best is take the "Heathrow Connect" trains from Heathrow  to Paddington, there are around four trains per hour, the trip takes 26 minutes and the fare is 9.50 GBP.  Trains operated by First Great Western.

-The London Underground serves Heathrow terminals 1, 2 and 3, 4 has a bus to other underground station.  You must change of line to go to Paddington (this is the cheaper option but the most complex).

-There is also fast electric train service ("Heathrow Express") from Heathrow to Paddington, but the cost of the ticket is GBP 13.50, trip time 15 minutes, four trains per hour.

From Paddington to Cardiff:

-First Great Western trains leave from Paddington to Cardiff, there are two trains per hour (all leaves at :15 and 45 of each hour), the trip takes 2:10 and the fare vary a lot, the cheaper one is GBP 11, you can purchase tickets via internet.

If you know when you are traveling, see if you can get a 'firstminutefare' from Heathrow to Cardiff.

You can also avoid going into London by taking the 'Railair' coach service to Reading and meeting an express from Paddington to Cardiff there..

Bus is easiest. I havnt tried it for a couple of years (resident in US) but it was easier and cheaper than train. Cost about £35.00 in 2004
