We have seen this nautanki by the govt. from lower level to higher level including the private industrialists. We read them in the news papers. The news is spalshed lavishly about the lavish showers of lakhs of rupees from all sides on the winners

This happened in the case of the winning cricket team. Then it happened in the case of Abhinav Bindra.

I was wondering whether the govt. has gone bersirk. When the individual athletes like Sushilkumar ( he did not get much money from the various agencies) tried to come up despite much worse conditons than Abhinav for training, that time the govt. was apathetic or at least quiet.

There are umpteen number of athletes out there who would have qualified for Olympic but for the lack of support of govt. and the private agencies'.

The winners should rightly be honoured. But lavishing huge amounts after winning and not on those who need most for the next Olympics is not only quite puzzling but unjust. The money does not come from their own salaries but fromt he country's coffers. How much right do they have to do this ? It would only be useful for spending lavishly. Instead, if the same amount or little less even had to be spent on the sports and other healthy activities (compared to the women from other countries so few women from India participated in the Olynmpics, why women are not promoted. Majority of the Indian women participants were from the Southern part of India. Why many mor are not encouraged, supportedfinancially and iin ohter aspects) in the country without corruption, India would have definately done much better than the pathetic condition we have been in today.

Infact the wrestler who played for Australia himself along with his coach said that here in India the facilities are not made available. Therefore the people go abroad to seek greener pastures and progress. This is well known to everyone.

Not a single govt. agency or any sane politician has so far come forward to ackowledged the failure on part of the govt. of proper financial and other support to those who went to SHINE or SHAME India's name before the world.

How futile it is to gloat on the individual glory of those who did well and at least brought home Bronze.

Abhinav is wealthy enough to create conducive atmosphere for his achievement.

Isn't it confusing?

  2. I totally agree with you, i share teh same sentiments. They should have showed the same intrest to build infrastructure to sport people in India in the money they have awrded. I am not against any athlet.

  3. Abhinav Bindra is rich in his own rights. It would have been more graceful on his part and added to his and his family's stature if he had donated all the cash awards that he got from various persons to a worthy charity.Government and ministers' profligacy in announcing huge awards in cash and kind is

not only reprehensible but borders on the criminal.A

token award along with a "Padma" title would be ample. The private sector  and rich industrialists could

sponsor their training and endorsements will adequately

    compensate their successes.Politicians and ministers

frequently announce solatia to people who die due to consumption of spurious liquor. While the victims may be bread winners in the family, they knew full well the consequences of consuming alcohol. These people could have been given money while alive to wean them away from alcohol and so that their family members could start some cottage industry to put food on the table.Such largess is to get the public attention and self-

aggrandizement at the cost of the state exchequer.Have you heard of a single instance of such gifts from the ministers' own pockets? You wonder whether these  acts are confusing.I say,no ,not at all. These acts are cheap publicity gimmicks at the cost of the tax-payer and should be condemned in the strongest terms.
