By train changing in Brussels, or by air? The train would probably take longer, but is door to door, whereas flying involves more interchanges and general faff...

Anyone have any experience of either/both journeys?

  1. i would drive there myself

  2. Take the train from St Pancras - you're minutes walk away from Kings Cross. With hanging around and getting to and from the airports at either end, the train will be quicker.

  3. Walk down the road to Euston, get a train to Birmingham International and get a flight to Schiphol (Amsterdam airport). Get a cab to Central station.

  4. Kings Cross Stansted Express train to Stansted Airport. EasyJet flight to Schipol, then train (the station is underneath the arrivals concourse) to Amsterdam Centraal station.

St. Pancras train to Luton Airport Parkway, shuttle bus to airport, plane to Schipol, train to Amsterdam.

Kings Cross Piccadilly Line to Heathrow Airport, plane to Schipol, train to Amsterdam.

Eurostar from St. Pancras to Brussels, change trains to Thalys high speed train direct to Amsterdam on new rail line.

There would be very little difference in the total journey time between going all the way by train and flying, taking into account the time required to reach the airport, checking-in, waiting for the long security queues at the airport (the security for Eurostar is much quicker) and waiting for baggage to appear at Schipol. The train is by far the best way to travel to Amsterdam, although slightly more expensive than the total cost by air - travel to the airport from Kings Cross/St. Pancras has to be included in the price.

  5. By the time you get to the airport and all the other things you have to do and the other end it is quicker by train but it's more expensive. That's the only reason I go by plane!

  6. walking....=P
