From Milan (Malpensa airport) to Zurich, Geneva or ??

I am planning a 2 night stopover in Milan, Italy en route to India, with family. I land at 8:00am. I am planning to rent a car at the airport. Have not decided if I should drive to Zürich, Geneva (or Bern or some place else), for an overnight trip. Any suggestions about which place would be better for the family (2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 year old).

I'd rather stay in the region since driving to the places you named in Switzerland is too far for the short time especially with kids.. Why don't you visit the region around the Lake of Como or if Switzerland: Lugano/Locarno (approx. 1 hour).
