  1. Forget the bus, the train takes less than 15 minutes. Maybe less than 10.

  2. train will be faster and a better ride

  3. Non-stop trains take 12 minutes to Durham. Most trains are non-stop but some stop at Chester-le-Street which makes the journey time longer by about 2 minutes. A day return is about £5, maybe £5.50. Get the train from Newcastle Central Station. They run really frequently.

The bus takes about an hour or so. I am not sure how much it costs but it's probably only about £1 or so cheaper than the train. Buses are operated by Go North East and go from stand F at Eldon Square bus station in Newcastle although you are better off getting the bus from the stop at the top of Pilgrim Street (at the bottom of Northumberland Street cross the road by Vision Express and keep walking and the bus stop is the last one in the street) as all buses stop there whereas only some start at Eldon Square. The buses are usually pink, the Angel route, and it's the number 21 you want, it will be marked "Durham" or "Bishop Auckland" on the front. For bus timetables go to http://www.gonortheast.co.uk

In Durham buses stop at the bus station in town. Trains stop on the massive enormous hill but it's about a 15-minute walk from there into Durham city centre. I believe there is a bus that goes from the train station up to the cathedral which will help you avoid the hills but I don't know how frequently they operate.

  4. I live at Durham the best is the train
