  1. I have given birth 4 times.  With my last pregnancy, my husband and I conceived quite unexpectedly when I was reliably taking birth control pills for 11 years.  I had no idea I was pregnant and continued to take my pills daily.  I went to my doctor for my regularly scheduled yearly physical where she surprisingly discovered the pregnancy during my internal exam.  We were both equally shocked, I think.  I had been having periods as normal, except for the one I had before my appointment which came at the right time, but was shorter and lighter than usual.  My doctor listened for a heartbeat since she thought my cervix felt like I was about 12 weeks along.  We heard a perfect little baby heart beat clear as a bell, but we had no idea how far along I really was, so I was sent for an ultrasound.  It was a double shock when the ultrasound showed I was 17 weeks along and I truly had no idea I was pregnant.  I never believed such a thing really happened and always scoffed at those women who "claimed" they had no idea they were pregnant.  Then it happened to me and I was properly humbled.  Thinking back in my pregnancy, I realized that I had 2 completely normal appearing periods in the early stages of my pregnancy followed by the one that was a bit abnormal.  I hadn't realized that could happen, but my doctor said that some women do have periods while pregnant typically due to some type of hormonal situation.  For me, it was the hormones in the Pill that caused mine.  Not all the uterine lining and tissue attach to the placenta, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, so a woman can have what appears to be normal period bleeding.  It is not the most common thing to happen, but it does sometimes.  Some women even bleed monthly for their entire pregnancy.  Typically, most women do stop having periods when they get pregnant.
