I'll be visiting Italy early June of this year. My first stop would be Rome. I want to see Florence and Pisa for a daytrip and then move on to Venice for maybe an overnight stay.

  1. I recommend the train.  Although trains can get delayed in Italy, they are much better than the roads.  The roads and the drivers are very hard to deal with in Italy.  Seeing florence and Pisa in a day will be hard if you like art at all.  There is so much to see in Florence (5 times as much as Pisa).  There is a way to buy advance or VIP  tickets for the museums in florence.  that will save a lot of time from waiting in line.  I spent 3 days in florence, and I was fine eith just an afternoon in Pisa.  I loved Venice!  Eurail and/or Europass have websites out there with train schedules.

  2. The train may be the best way to go. It's relatively cheap in comparison with the rest of Europe. Bus is cheaper, but not sure about schedules.

I do know for a fact, however, that you can get the train to Florence from Rome and then take from Florence to Pisa. I've heard there's not a whole lot in Pisa aside from the Leaning Tower, so unless you really want to see that I would avoid it if time is short.

Florence, in my opinion, was the best of the three cities I visited in Italy (Rome and Venice were the other two)

    Anyway, here's a website for Italy's trains:

  3. Your best option is to take the train from Termini Station in Rome to Florence. The trip takes about 90 minutes but it's almost not worth going if you don't spend at least one overnight to enjoy the art. The train from Florence to Pisa takes a little over an hour. You could take in the sights in Pisa in an afternoon. I'm planning to do that at the end of my trip in May then stay overnight for a convenient early AM international flight back home. The trip by train from Florence to Venice is 3+ hours and from Venice to Pisa 4 to 5 hours depending on what train you take. Unless you plan to fly our of the international airport in Pisa, I'd skip it.
