From Rome to the Leaning Tower of Pisa?

I am going to visit Rome next week. While there, I would really like to visit the leaning Tower of Pisa. How long would it take to get there, and are there coaches or trains that go direct?

Many thanks!

  1. You can take the train from Rome to Pisa. It's a minimum 3 hour ride -- be sure to take a non-stop Eurostar (ES) train for the fastest service. Here is the train system website for further information:

    www.trenitalia.com

The tower is very interesting, it is now open to visitors after being closed for several years and you really should climb it.  Here's the website for more info: http://torre.duomo.pisa.it/

As others have said, it is quite far to go from Rome to Pisa just for the tower. Florence or Lucca are great intermediary stops if you have the time or inclination to do it.

  2. Pisa is the city it's in and it's a long way from Rome.  221 miles according to Yahoo! Maps and over three hours by auto.  It's closer to Genova than Rome.  I'm sure that there is a train.  Enjoy the trip.  Rome is awesome.  Best shopping in the world!

  3. There are some direct trains from Rome to Pisa. A better option may be to take the Eurostar to Firenze (Florence) and transfer to a Pisa train (total about 3 hours depending on your connection) - there are more options available and it might save an hour since a lot of the direct trains are locals (about 4 hours). Pisa Centrale station is about a twenty minute walk from the tower. There's a closer station, but not all trains stop there.

You can check train schedules at: www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

  4. hi there! maybe I can help you cause i'm from Rome... it takes about 3 hours to get to Pisa by train. it takes a long time to get there cause it's not a direct train...anyway there is one leaving from TERMINI STATION at 7.35 am (i just checkd on the trenitalia web site) so you can spend the whole day there. Pisa it's a nice place to visit, expecially the historical center but it's a a tiny city. i think one day would be enogh to visit it... HAVE A NICE STAY!

  5. While visiting Rome, I would highly recommend you visiting the Vatican City and walking the steps up to the see the top of Sistine Chapel.  It's awesome sight and an experience you will always remember during your lifetime!

We did visit Pisa but another memorable stop my wife truly enjoyed was Florence!  In the town market in the morning we were fortunate to see a large gathering of vendors and the shopping for Italian sweaters and hand crafted leather goods was something we have never forgotten!
