From Sir Bobby Robson’s prodigy to Chelsea – Andre Villas Boas’ rise to stardom: English Premier League
Every man destined of greatness has a sense of ambition about him, some people go looking for greatness and they often succeed in their mission to do so. At just 16 years of age, a Portuguese boy wrote a letter to Sir Bobby Robson
when the legendary English manager was in charge at Porto in the Portuguese first division.
Sir Bobby had taken charge at Porto following his dismissal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Lisbon. One day, the Porto manager received a letter from an unknown fan. The 16 year old fan outlined that Sir Bobby was wrongful in his approach towards
the club as he had kept Domingos Paciencia on the bench rather than playing him in the first team as a striker. The experienced tactician was taken by surprise but responded to the Porto fan who had written him the letter by asking him to support his argument
with facts and statistics.
Soon after the fan responded in fine style and made his case for including Domingos Paciencia in the starting line up for Porto. Sir Bobby Robson submitted to the fan’s argument and he was so impressed by the young man’s knowledge
of football tactics that the fan was offered a place in Porto’s back room staff. The fan in question is no one other than Andre Villas Boas. At just 16 years of age, Boas was a part of Porto’s coaching staff under Bobby http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robson-c31388.
Porto’s English manager soon sent his prodigy to Lilleshall Academy in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 where he did his coaching badges when he was just 17 years old. After graduating from the coaching academy, Boas went onto join George Burley at Ipswich
town before returning to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 as Porto’s U-19 team coach with Jose Mourinho as the manager at Estadio do Dragão.
Under Mourinho, Villas Boas became renowned for being extra ordinarily meticulous as he paid attention to detail. Soon Boas was promoted to the chief opposition scout as he prepared files on the opposition’s players for Jose and
his team. The files included minute details ranging from the players favourite foot to his weaknesses. After Jose left for Chelsea, Boas followed suit as he did the same job for the Special One at Stamford Bridge.
When Mourinho left for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, Andre Villas Boas joined him at San Siro but soon the young Portuguese tactician left his long standing friend to follow up on his own managerial ambitions. The young Portuguese tactician got
his first major breakthrough in club football when he was appointed as Porto’s manager. In his first season with
Azuis e Brancos, Andre Villas Boas won the Portuguese league, the domestic cup as well as the Europa League. In doing so, he silenced all his critics. Now he is set to take up Carlo Ancelotti’s vacant throne at Chelsea. Whether the move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786
for Boas will plan out to be as success as his time with Porto is something that is debatable but what isn’t debatable is that fact that Villas Boas is held in high esteem by his previous employers, people who were no push-overs themselves.
